Survey: Majority believe a generic campaign and media push are essential

Raising awareness about protection is one of the issues closest to intermediaries' hearts, it was revealed at the COVER Protection Forum.

When voting for which topic the panel should discuss, some 75% of IFAs on the day said raising awareness about the protection industry should be the number one choice - showing just how important this subject is to many brokers.

Discussing the ways to best promote protection, a total of 37% of delegates thought a generic advertising campaign would be the best way to highlight the need for protection.

Another 35% thought better informed media coverage would help, while only 10% thought Government intervention would be the way forward.

When debating who should be spearheading an advertising campaign, the Association of British Insurers topped the vote with 48%.

Another 25% thought a group of product providers should come together and launch such a campaign.

Over half (54%) of the audience also thought modules on financial products should feature in the new school citizenship curriculum to raise awareness of the need for protection.
