PowerShares ETF tracks Chinese yuan

ETFM brings you a roundup of some of this week's ETF and indexing news.

Invesco PowerShares is planning to start trading on the PowerShares Chinese Yuan Dim Sum Bond Portfolio today. The ETF will be listed in New York.

The fund will track the performance of Chinese yuan-denominated bonds issued and settled outside mainland China through the Citigroup Dim Sum (Offshore CNY) Bond Index.

Credit Suisse has launched an Equity Market Neutral ETN, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It is the first ETN to provide exposure to an equity market neutral strategy in an ETP, says the bank.

The ETN tracks the HS Market Neutral Index Powered by HOLT which selects stocks based on factors such as value and momentum using Credit Suisse's HOLT stock selection framework.

Dow Jones has launched another batch of indices as part of an expansion of its European offering. The launches include select dividend indices for Europe, the Eurozone, France and Germany and real estate indices. This is the second launch from the provider this month with a European focus.

Canadian ETF provider Horizons Exchange Traded Funds has surpassed $1bn in AUM in its actively managed funds. The provider has 26 actively managed ETFs tracking equities, fixed income, covered calls and balanced and specialist strategies.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged a former Goldman Sachs employee and his father with insider trading using confidential information about the company's ETF strategy.

In a statement the SEC said its Division of Enforcement alleges that Spencer D. Mindlin and his father Alfred C. Mindlin obtained at least US$57,000 in "illicit profits" using information learned by the former employee while working on Goldman's ETF desk.

This is the first insider trading enforcement action involving ETFs which the SEC has undertaken. Proceedings will determine what action the SEC will take.
