The Absolute Returns sector has become a mainstay of the investment market over the last few years. The defensive nature of most absolute return funds should mean they are equipped to perform well in a bear market. But many funds in the sector have underperformed in the last couple of years, missing their own target returns. What are the long term prospects for absolute returns, and should the sector be renamed or split to better reflect the funds' underlying strategy?

The Absolute Returns panel includes:

Gavin Launder - Fund manager of the European Absolute Fund, L&G Investments

Kate Hollis - Director - Fund Research, Standard & Poor's

Simon Thorp - Head of Fixed Income, Liontrust
