dunce

The government’s new e-petition website has caused a stir since it was launched early this month.

The site replaces the original Number 10 petition site which was launched by Labour - and quietly shelved a few years later.

If these petitions are anything to go by, we feel the new site might end up going the same way.

1) Abolish the word "billion" from all financial reports

The word has lost all impact. If economists and commentators had to say ten million millions instead of ten billion it would bring into focus the real size of the figures.

2) Ban on financial lenders from selling insurance products

The people demand legislation be introduced within one year that bans all banks, building societies, and other financial lenders from owning, or having ANY relationship in any way with companies that sell any types of insurance such as PPI, life insurance, life assurance, endowments, motor insurance, etc.

3) National Financial Service

To supply access to a service that offers free face to face access to qualified financial advice to the general public.

4) Financial penalties for death penalty advocates

If ever the death penalty is reintroduced, all those who voted in favour of it should suffer a permanent hike in their income tax of 5%, plus a one off fine equal to 1% of their annual income, every time an executed person is later proven to be innocent.

5) Increase FSCS to 100%

Increase the Financial Services Compensation Scheme to protect people's money 100% in all bank accounts.

6) Follow the Icelandic model to rebuild the economy

The government should cease providing preferential rate loans to financial institutions in the UK, and should instead follow the course of action taken by Iceland to rebuild the UK economy.

7) Set inheritance tax to at least 100%

By abolishing inheritance, every generation would start their lives on an equal playing field. This would be fairer to everyone as the best people would get to the best financial positions based on their own merits rather than those of their parents.

8) Introduce a 99p coin

[A 99p coin] would reduce the need for small change in the economy, make purchases more convenient and offset the loss of millions of pennies from the UK economy each year.

9) Ban the finance industry from charging fees from capital

All fees and charges should only come out of interest earned or capital growth. The original capital amount should be protected. If the value of a fund suffers a reduction then fees should be paid to the individual. This should put an end to the common practice of front loading charges and the corresponding reduction of pension pots.

10) Gordon Brown trial for ruining pensions

Gordon Brown should face trial for turning the UK pensions system from one of the best into a ruined system. He was advised not to do what he did but still did it which makes him the sole person responsible.
