Chairman of ifs School of Finance Donald Brydon has been appointed chairman of Royal Mail.

He will join Royal Mail's board as a non-executive director with immediate effect before taking over from current chairman Allan Leighton in March.

Brydon will continue his work at ifs School of Finance until his three year term ends in November.

"Donald has proved himself to be an incredibly good chairman at the ifs School of Finance, as he has proved to be the case at various other institutions. I am sure that Donald will be equally successful in meeting the tough challenges that lie ahead at Royal Mail," says Phil Hall, head of media and public affairs at the institute.

Brydon says: "The Royal Mail is one of Britain's great organisations and I am honoured to be asked to lead it in the next phase of its continuing modernisation."
