Joanne Segars has been appointed in a new role as director of policy at the National Association of Pension Funds.

As part of an internal restructuring process, Segars will take up her post in March heading up a team researching, analysing and developing NAPF policy on a host of pensions issues.

Segars was previously head of pensions and sSavings at the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in 2001 before joining the NAPF, and previously held the post as senior pensions policy officer at the TUC.

She was also awarded an OBE for services to the pensions industry in 2003, along with being a founder governor and council member of the Pensions Policy Institute.

Segars will also deputise Christine Farnish, the body's chief executive, who said of the appointment: “I am delighted that she will be joining us at this crucial time. Pensions are at the top of the political agenda, and are set to be a key area of debate ahead of the forthcoming general election and beyond."
