Financial advisers are being targeted by a series of roadshows hosted by Reita which outline the benefits of Real Estate Investment Trusts.

The organisation, which runs an educational and awareness campaign through the Reita.org website, says the 21 regional roadshows aim to give advisers independent education and information about the benefits of property investment and Reits.

Reita says each event will last half a day and will include presentations giving practical advice on Reits and property investment from key speakers including among others:

  • Patrick Sumner, chairman of Reita and head of global property equities at Henderson Global Investors
  • Mark Long – director of investment strategy and research at Invista Real Estate Investment Management
  • Peter Hicks, head of IFA affairs at Fidelity International
  • Francis Salway, chief executive of Land Securities

Dave Butler, programme coordinator at Reita, says since the campaign was launched just over six months ago, awareness of Reits and property investment has grown substantially and with it the need for continuing independent information, education and support.

He adds: “Our last research wave in February this year showed that over 60% of advisers say they are likely to include Reits in their clients’ portfolios but many still want more information, and this is why we have launched the roadshows.”

Sumner adds: “The introduction of UK Reits has opened up new opportunities for investors to gain exposure to commercial and residential property as an asset class by creating a more liquid and tax-efficient vehicle.”

“At the same time, it will also bring long term and fundamental changes to the UK property market with new opportunities and challenges for advisers and their clients.”
