Nigel Waterson, the Tory pensions minister, has lost the Eastbourne seat he has held for 18 years to the Liberal Democrats.

After a closely-fought battle, Liberal Democrat Stephen Lloyd triumphed by 3,435 votes.

Waterson managed to poll 21,223 votes compared to his rival's 24,658 after a closely fought battle at Eastbourne's Town Hall.

Waterson and the Conservatives thought they had won until just minutes before the result was announced at around 2.40am.

At the last General Election in 2005, Waterson regained his seat with 21,033 votes while Lloyd came in second with 19,909.

Waterson's departure from Westminster will be a blow to the pensions industry if the Tories do manage to form a coalition government as he had a strong grasp of issues affecting the retirement market.

As well as being shadow pensions minister and shadow minister for older people, he has been Chairman of the All Party Group for Older People for many years.

Good bye

No mention in your report about him assaulting his own adopted children. The man is a self-serving bully and its good to see the back of him.
