Financial services PR firm Broadgate Mainland has announced the death of Neil Mainland yesterday evening, following a long battle against cancer.

Incisive Media would like to pass on its condolences to the family and friends of Neil.

Neil, who spent 22 years in financial services PR, founded the Mainland agency in 2002.

Incisive Media chief executive Tim Weller says Neil was not only an outstanding PR man, but a true gentleman.

"He was a great friend and much admired by the journalist team on Investment Week for his integrity and knowledge of what made a good news story. He was an outstanding PR professional and a true credit to his profession," Weller says.

"I remember issue two of Investment Week in February 1995 as if it were yesterday. We suffered a major power outage in our Brewer Street offices on our press day and without power there was little chance of getting the issue out. This was until Neil suggested we connect a series of power cables from our editorial office across a court yard to a single plug in his office in Golden Square. It worked and Investment Week hit the presses on time.

"Neil will be sadly missed by all of us at Incisive Media."

Neil was was a director at Valin Pollen in the 1980s, before running his own agency for 10 years prior to selling the business to Financial Dynamics, where he worked as a partner until April 2002. He then restarted his own agency in 2002 which merged with Broadgate Mainland in 2009.

Prior to entering the PR industry Neil was an industrial journalist, latterly for the Daily Telegraph where he worked for a number of years.

Further details of Neil’s funeral and memorial service will be communicated in due course.

Neil Mainland

I will miss Neil for his gentleness, his knowledge, his kindness and his guiet understated humour. Even though he was so ill he always had time and was always positive and never moaned. A great man who will leave a big hole.
