Who should replace Cummings as AIFA director general?

futurequestion

Chris Cummings is to leave the trade association in August, but who would you like to see as his replacement?

PFS chief executive Fay Goddard has ruled herself out of the role and says the position will be filled by somebody who, as yet, doesn't have a particularly high profile in the industry.

It should be somebody, she says, who may have previously managed an IFA business and who holds influence among a number of stakeholders.

Might AIFA, AMI and AFB director Robert Sinclair be in a position to succeed Cummings, or AIFA policy director Andrew Strange?

Nomination

I nominate Alan Lakey, the only guy who I feel speaks any real sense on behalf of the general public and average client that requires financial advice.

Larry the Lamb

If we wish to retain the status quo of AIFA being as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, I'd suggest Larry the Lamb. Like Chris, Larry, as far as I am aware, has never been an IFA. Like Chris, the FSA or their successor, will pay no attention...

Donna Hopton

I agree with James Donna is more than a champion of our industry and unlike so may others she does not have a hidden agenda. I understand that CherryFind.co.uk is funded only by advisers and as such purely works for us the community. That is exactly what we need from the AIFA Director General. So I formally nominate Donna Hopton.

Cummings replacement

Either Alan Lakey or Evan Owen have the experience, commitment and understanding to fill this role. Whether they could afford to do it is a different matter.
