Aegon has named former ABN Amro AM chief and ex-Artemis director Sarah Russell as the new CEO of its asset management business.

The Dutch-based group says Russell will replace Erik van Houwelingen, who is leaving to pursue career opportunities elsewhere, at the beginning of next month.

Russell was CEO of ABN Amro Asset Management from 2006 to 2008, while she also served as a director of Artemis from January 2006 to March 2010.

"Sarah Russell brings significant experience and expertise to this key leadership position within our global asset management organisation," Alex Wynaendts says.

"Her appointment comes at an important time following the successful start-up phase of this new business over the past two years."
