Politicians have been lining up to tell us how financially "difficult" 2011 will be, but nothing puts UK debt into perspective like the relentless building blocks of Tetris.

Leader of the Opposition Ed Milliband says 2011 will be "a year of consequences" as the coalition government's cuts kick in.

PM David Cameron has conceded it will be a "difficult year", but stands by the austerity package.

Meanwhile, Chancellor George "We're all in this together" Osborne enjoyed a New Year break at Prince Charles' favourite ski resort, Klosters, among the £10,000 a night chalets.

For another view on Britain's debt crisis, check out this rework of an 1989 (another good year for financial crises) classic from animators Miles Tudor and Dom Del Torto.
