Andrew Dalton, who founded and was managing partner and chief investment officer of Dalton Strategic Partnership, has died after suffering a heart attack.

The 61-year-old died at his Scotland home on Easter Sunday.

Dalton brought over 30 years of investment experience to the task of building Dalton Strategic Partnership, which he established in 2002 and today manages assets worth $2.2bn.

He was directly responsible for the Global Asset Allocation team which manages approximately $400m.

Before starting DSP, Dalton worked at S G Warburg & Co, before becoming a director and then vice chairman of Mercury Asset Management.

He was also a highly regarded member of the Bank of England's high level LOTUS group and a director of the International Financial Management Association.

Magnus Spence, the chief operating officer who will take over as managing partner, paid tribute to his colleague.

"Andrew will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He was a wonderful man and an outstanding investor."

Dalton's asset management responsibilities have been assumed by Rupert Caldecott, who worked alongside him since joining DSP in 2006.

Andrew Dalton is survived by his wife, Jenny, and four children.
