Standard Life has dismissed James Verner following the conclusion of an internal investigation.

Verner, sales director for Vebnet, the employee benefits consultancy and technology provider owned by Standard Life, had been on suspension from the company since May pending the result of an internal probe.

A statement from the life and pensions firm said: "We would like to reassure advisers and customers that there has been no impact on our operations as a result of this process and there will be no impact in the future.

"As recently announced, our corporate business will continue to develop under the leadership of Stephen Ingledew."

The announcement comes just weeks after former managing director of corporate Gerry O'Neill left the life and pensions firm after he was suspended at the same time.

Standard Life would not say why Verner and O'Neill had been suspended.
