Do you want a work experience MP at your firm?

IFAs could have help with the paperwork from their local MP as part of a scheme to make law makers better understand the realities of running a small company.

The Forum of Private Business's 'Business Buddy' scheme has already signed up 102 MPs, including business secretary Vince Cable, shadow education secretary Andy Burnham and Green Party leader Caroline Lucas.

MPs will be matched up with Forum members in their constituencies during Parliament's summer recess and will try their hand at various tasks and duties within the firm for anything from an hour to half a day.

The Forum hopes the scheme will help politicians understand how the legislation they vote on affects businesses, as well as the challenges firms face.

Jane Bennett, the Forum's head of campaigns, said: "Every MP's involvement in the scheme is very valuable - it will give small business owners across the UK a voice in the corridors of power in Westminster and hopefully help to influence the business policies of the main political parties."

Small Business Minister Mark Prisk said all MPs should take part in the scheme.

"I encourage all members of Parliament who share my passion for UK business to make the most of the opportunity offered by the Forum of Private Business's Business Buddy scheme."

Scottish MSPs, Welsh AMs and MEPs are also taking part in the initiative.
