Prudential executives are set to be interviewed in the coming days as part of an FSA probe into the insurance giant’s failed takeover bid for AIA.
The inquiry into the botched £23bn takeover of Prudential's Hong Kong-based rival is being handled by law firm Clifford Chance on behalf of the FSA, reports Sky News.
Its inquiry will focus on whether Prudential gave the FSA sufficient notice of its intention to bid for AIA - at the time owned by US insurer AIG - and whether it was appropriately structured, added Sky.
Chief executive Tidjane Thiam (pictured), who came in for heavy criticism from shareholders for the failed takeover, is expected to be interviewed later this month.
Prudential made a bid of £23bn for AIA in February last year, to be partially funded by a rights issue, but the deal fell through after the FSA raised a number of objections.
