Ed Miliband of the Labour party

Labour Party leader Ed Miliband has challenged the Prime Minister to intervene in the ongoing row about RBS chief executive Stephen Hester's bonus.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Miliband said David Cameron should be "true to his word" and do more to block Hester's bonus, which, according to reports, is said to be between £1.3m and £1.5m.

"The Prime Minister said last year we're going to deal with these bonuses," Miliband said.

"The bonus season's back, all carrying on regardless, including at the Royal Bank of Scotland. It's just not fair, it's not right, and it's not the bankers paying their fair share.

"There's this big decision about the head of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Stephen Hester. I don't think he should be getting his bonus, you know the state still owns a share in the Royal Bank of Scotland, tax payers are still, you know, footing the bill for what's happening at the Royal Bank of Scotland.

If responsibility means anything, I don't think he should be getting his bonus. And the Prime Minister, if he's true to his word, would exercise his responsibility to do something about that."
