With the holiday season well and truly upon us, we ask advisers for their top book recommendations...

Today we get the reading recommendations of...

Martin Bamford, managing director, Informed Choice:

Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hannson: I read this book briefly in March but want to read it again this summer as it is all about more efficient ways to doing business. From what I have already read, it sits quite comfortably with my own business philosophy, particularly their views on meetings which they brand as ‘toxic'.

Play Dead by Harlan Coben: He is my favourite fiction author and this is a book he wrote 20 years ago, just recently republished. Whilse I am not expecting it to be up to the same standard as his more recent works, it should be an interesting read and good to see what the quality of his writing was like when he was first getting started.

Addicted to Wedding Cake by Keith Churchouse: I co-chair the local Surrey IFP branch with Keith and this is his second book, all about divorce. Not the most cheerful of subjects for a summer reading list, but no doubt a riveting good read and very useful for some CPD points!

Dennis Hall, Yellowtail Financial Planning:

The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest: the final book in the Millennium Trilogy. It's a great series - I defy anyone to pick up the trilogy and not be able to put it down.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand: too many people have told me that it is a "must read" so I've finally bought a copy. A classic for our times I'm assured.

The Pinch by David Willetts (Conservative MP): how the baby boomers took their children's future - and why they should give it back: The first chapter (which I've read) is well written, and Willetts researches his topic well.

Made to Stick by Chip & Dan Heath: Any IFA who is writing any copy, whether website copy, newsletters, anything really- should read this book.
