NAME: Nigel Watson

Standard Bank Offshore has appointed Nigel Watson as director of intermediary distribution. Watson will be responsible for building on the bank's distribution success and managing the development of its products through intermediaries around the world. While principally based in the Isle of Man, Watson will work closely alongside Standard Bank's current network of in-country heads of international wealth management. He has previously held senior positions with several offshore life companies, including in recent years Scottish Provident International. He specialises in offshore distribution matters in markets such as the Far East, the Middle East, Europe and the UK. John Coyle, managing director of Standard Bank Offshore in the Isle of Man, said: "This is a key appointment as part of Standard Bank Offshore's strategy to grow its business on an international level. Nigel is well known in the IFA market, having 20 years international experience in cross-border sales in all the main international regions."

Julian Hince has joined Gartmore as head of strategic partners. Reporting to Rod Aldridge, head of UK retail distribution, Smith will be responsible for managing relationships and establishing sales opportunities with Gartmore's strategic partners - a key growth objective for 2007. Smith's experience in the investment management industry spans a decade. Prior to this move, he was client relationship director at Invesco Perpetual. Paul Feeney, head of distribution at Gartmore, said: "Strategic Partnerships are a key focus for Gartmore. We continue to see opportunities to grow our UK retail business through this channel. By having a dedicated team, and head, Gartmore can concentrate on developing this market share utilising Julian's knowledge and experience."

Fiduciary services provider Saffery Champness has strengthened its Guernsey practice with the appointment of Nick Batiste as a director. Guernsey-born Batiste, heads up a 10-strong trust team specialising in the establishment, administration and operation of offshore trust structures. Batiste has particular expertise in handling the affairs of high net worth and non-domiciled individuals, and he is also frequently involved in the formulation of corporate structures. His promotion to director of chartered accountants and registered fiduciaries comes after 14 years with the firm and having worked at every level within it, in the field of offshore trust and company management and administration. In his role, Batiste, a chartered certified accountant, will continue his day-to-day involvement with clients while taking on increased responsibilities for practice development.
NAME: ARABELLA DI IORIO
TO: MAPLES AND CALDER

International law firm Maples and Calder's British Virgin Islands (BVI) office has appointed Arabella di Iorio as head of litigation. Di Iorio joins from the Bermuda office of Appleby Hunter Bailhache, where she was counsel in the commercial litigation team. She specialises in complex, multi-jurisdictional commercial cases in the corporate, professional negligence and trusts sectors. She began her career at the English Bar and later worked for Linklaters for five years, before moving to Bermuda in 1998. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Michael Firth, head of global litigation at Maples and Calder, said: "Arabella's addition to the successful BVI team substantially adds to our litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution capability. BVI is seeing an increase in high profile cross-border corporate joint venture and asset tracing disputes and her expertise will enhance the BVI dispute resolution services we are able to offer to our clients."
NAME: RICHARD COLWELL
TO: MORLEY FUND MANAGEMENT

UK fund manager Morley Fund Management has appointed Richard Colwell to a newly created position of high alpha UK equity fund manager. This brings to five the number of newly created fund managers Morley has added to its UK specialist equities team this year. Colwell, who starts at Morley in January, comes from Credit Suisse where he managed the Growth & Income fund and the Credit Suisse Managed Assets Oeic - both achieving top quartile ranking in performance tables this year. He has run a number of segregated institutional pension funds for more than four years with varying mandates. He had joint responsibility for the £2.4bn in UK equities run for Sun Life of Canada together with the Credit Suisse Pooled pension fund.
NAME: ROBERT KIRKBY
TO: JERSEY FINANCE
FROM: PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS
The Board of Jersey Finance has announced Robert Kirkby is to succeed David Wild as its technical director. Kirkby, currently a senior manager within the tax department at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Jersey, will join Jersey Finance in February. An MA honours graduate from Cambridge University and a qualified accountant, Kirkby began his financial services career in London in 1995 working for KPMG until 2000. During that time, he worked for the firm in New Zealand and in London. At PricewaterhouseCoopers he worked in London in its mergers and acquisitions tax department, moving to Jersey in 2003 to join the firm's trust and company administration department. Pierre Horsfall, chairman of Jersey Finance, commented: "Aside from our role as the official promotional body, the consultation process that is instigated by Jersey Finance and its role as a forum for discussion on the issues affecting the industry are two of the organisation's most important tasks. We have appointed an experienced professional who, having worked in the island since 2003 with one of the major professional service firms, has an existing knowledge and understanding of many of the opportunities and challenges that the island's finance industry has to address."
NAME: NEVILLE GODLEY
TO: DAWNAY DAY QUANTUM
FROM: GARTMORE
Specialist investment manager Dawnay Day Quantum (DDQ) has appointed Neville Godley as sales manager. Godley, who was previously on the strategic partners' sales team at Gartmore, will be responsible for building and managing relationships with multi-managers, discretionary asset managers and intermediaries to promote DDQ's range of open-ended and structured investments. Mark Mathias, chief executive of DDQ, said: "Neville has excellent investment knowledge, broad sales experience and an extensive base of contacts. DDQ has grown substantially over the last two years and Neville's appointment indicates that we intend to maintain this growth."
