A London-based Chartered Financial Planner has been appointed secretary of international financial planning association the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT).
Caroline Banks, director of Caroline Banks & Associates, took up the position at the start of September and isa set to become president of the organisation in 2015.
Founded in 1927, MDRT - which calls itself the "premier association of finance professionals - has members from 430 companies in 78 countries.
A 22-year member of MDRT, Banks now represents about 36,000 financial planners worldwide and the organisation's aim to ensure its advisers serve clients with the "highest standards of ethics, knowledge, service and productivity".
Banks said she wants to use the role to raise global standards of advice, planning and protection to benefit both consumers and advisers.
"I hope during my time on the Executive Committee to forge stronger ties between advisers from all areas of expertise and assist MDRT in their efforts to help members grow their businesses."
MDRT said it provides members access to networking events, professional development tools and opportunities for professional and personal enhancement.

We start a new era!
Congratulations Caroline! You are an inspiration and through your leadership, other advisers who have not yet embraced MDRT will realise the quality of the membership and the value to be gained. Those of us who spend the time, the effort (and the money) to travel to North America each year do so for the incredible insights we gain, the ideas and concepts we learn and the camaraderie we develop with people from all over the globe. All of us have the pre-requisite of willing to learn and to share. Perhaps that is why change is not a challenge but is genuinely an opportunity. The UK MDRT committee is very active and is preparing next year's conference. Visit http://www.mdrtuk.co.uk/ for more info and to register for more details. And thank you Simon for your kind comments!

MDRT
Yes, despite the out of touch and negative comments made by some financial journalists who continually attack IFA's without really understanding what we do, and who still criticise MDRT, the Million Dollar Round Table contains many of the world's greatest and most professional practitioners within our industry. As such, it is simply the world's greatest organisation representing and promoting the value of personal financial advice and anyone who has ever been to it's meetings has been repaid many times in terms of both career and personal development alone. Well done Caroline!

Caroline Banks & MDRT
Great news, and well deserved. Caroline showed (again, for those that know her) in her acceptance speech at the annual meeting in Atlanta that she will be a brilliant addition to the MDRT executive, and you never know, the British invasion may even accelerate thereafter ... Great UK professionals such as Bhupinder Anand and Ian Green, plus others too many to mention, are already giving their time and energy to the organisation, and no doubt will continue to do so in the years ahead. It's great to be involved, and I encourage readers to consider membership of MDRT.
