A delegation from Guernsey's finance industry plans to travel next month to Singapore and Hong Kong. The team will be led by government departmental heads and Peter Niven, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance and his deputy, Fiona Le Poidevin.
The group plans to meet with politicians, regulators, stock exchange officials and financial services practitioners in the two centres. There will also be a presentation on Guernsey companies being listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx).
“It is important that we build on the relationships we have developed with the appropriate officials to ensure that our industry has access to the widest number of markets possible. At the same time, we also need to make sure that the progress we are making is recognised by the financial services practitioners in centres such as Singapore and Hong Kong, enabling our finance industry to supplement business streams from the traditional UK and European markets with flows from these emerging economies,” comments Niven.
The delegation will also be represented at a private wealth management conference in Singapore, STEP Asia, and joined by representatives from Mourant Ozannes, Ogier, Collas Crill and Carey Group.
The Hong Kong leg of the tour starts on 7 November with a seminar showing local Hong Kong finance professionals the advantages of using a Guernsey company to access capital markets either in the UK and Europe or Hong Kong.
Separately to this Far East visit, Guernsey Finance is hosting briefing sessions for local industry practitioners to learn about doing better business in China. Three off-island speakers will each talk about their experience of working in these markets.
The date is Tuesday 25 October and interested participants can book a place by contacting j.baudains@guernseyfinance.com.
