The Isle of Man has been praised for its role in supporting the UK economy by the Lord Mayor of the City of London on the occasion of his first visit to the Island.
Alderman David Wootton told the Manx business community the Island was a leading example in proving just how diverse and dynamic small economies could be.
In particular, Wootton acknowledged the role of the financial sector as a provider of liquidity to the wider British economy, singling out its growing involvement with businesses in the north west of England and through the City, itself.
The Lord Mayor spoke of his belief in the partnership between the Island and the City and the crucial role it played in helping to create wealth and economic well-being.
In response, Chief Minister, Allan Bell, said, “The City of London is hugely important for the Isle of Man and we have been working hard to build the Island’s profile and relationships there. This visit is part of our growing friendship with the City and we are delighted that the Lord Mayor has come to see us so soon after taking up office in November.”
