Financial planner Joel Adams, one of the first to be issued a Statement of Professional Standing (SPS) by the CII, has kindly agreed to share his certificate so others can see what they look like (if they're interested).
From 1 January next year, all intermediaries - independent and restricted - will be required to hold an SPS as 'proof' they subscribe to a code of ethics, are qualified and have kept their knowledge up to date.
Accredited bodies, of which the CII and Institute of Financial Planning are two, will issue the certificates. They also have the power to remove them.
Last week, the CII began issuing its first SPSs. Click HERE for a sneak peak at Joel's.

Why so early?
I notice that the SPS expires 31 July 2012 which I believe falls in line with CII membership renewal. So this SPS does not cover from 2013 and Joel will have to reapply in July this year presumably with evidence of CPD. I therefore can't quite see the point of applying for it so early or am I missing something?

Why so early.
Wow that looks just like mine! I applied for mine as it was a good indication that all was in order with my qualifications and gap fill etc. I will have to apply again at renewal time but it wasnt a big deal and i hope it wont be next time. I also wanted to see what it looked like. Well done, thats at least two of us!

Answering Brian
A Statement of Professional Standing is renewed annually, with confirmation that you have met the relevant requirements. The benefit of applying early is that the initial verification of your qualification and gapfill can be carried out so that the future issuance is then only dependent on conformation of the CPD / ethics requirements. Future renewals will happen as part of the membership renewal process - right now the only (?) benefit of applying early is that you aren't applying at the same time as 24,000 others!!

Feeling a bit bored hence the blog but the article says the CII started issuing these last week however the SPS for this guy was issued in October 2011. Just an observation!
