Rachel Reeves has been promoted to shadow chief secretary for the Treasury in the Labour cabinet reshuffle, but her replacement in the pensions brief has not been announced.

Reeves, previously an economist at the Bank of England and a rising star in the Labour party, will now shadow Liberal Democrat Danny Alexander.

Liam Byrne will remain as secretary of state for work and pensions - Iain Duncan Smith's opposing number.

Liz Kendall has been appointed as Labour spokeswoman for care and older people but there has been no direct shadow announced for pensions minister Steve Webb.

The reshuffle follows the resignation of Labour health spokesman John Healey and Labour business spokesman John Denham from the shadow cabinet.
