A group of expatriates fighting for their pensions to be indexed equally with those of UK pensioners has taken the campaign to Parliament.
The International Consortium of British Pensioners (ICBP) recently lost an appeal in the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to have their pensions indexed in line with CPI.
Currently, UK state pensions are not increased each year when paid to people living in around 150 countries including Australia, Canada and South Africa.
Now a group of MPs led by Conservative MP for Portsmouth North Penny Mordaunt, has tabled an early day motion (EDM) urging the government to equalize all expat pensions.
The EDM has 38 signatures so far, drawing support from all major political parties.
Specifically, the EDM calls on the government to reform regulation three of the Social Security Benefits Up-rating Regulations 2011, which states pensioners in certain countries have their pension fixed at the rate it was when they left the UK.
The ICBP has also written to the Civil Service Pensioners' Alliance urging it to encourage members to lobby their MPs over the issue.

Not so sure a "recent" verdict
I am not so sure the ECHR verdict was a "recent" one. The case was heard in September 2009 and the verdict handed down in March 2010. The campaign team was disappointed in that result although we did manage to convince 6 of the ECHR Grand Chamber judges that our cause was just. I hope the latest developments give a signal to the British government that pensioners will not give in until all pensioners are treated fairly, with justice and equally. After all, all pensioners have paid into the system under exactly the same rules. Why shouldn't they get their pension under the same rules as those living in the UK and over 40 overseas countries?
